Located in Western North Carolina in
the Swannanoa Valley. The city of Asheville is just 20 miles to our
West. We are called the Front Porch of Western North Carolina because
of the quick rise in elevation if you approach us from the east. We
are only 6 hours by horseback from Mt. Mitchell, elev. 6,684 ft. which
is the highest point east of the Mississippi.
North Fork-just west of downtown is a wide peaceful valley. Higher in
those mountains is the watershed for the city of Asheville.
Cherry Street is a charming historic district transformed into wonderful
shops and restaurants.
Lake Tomahawk is the recreation center for our town. With a community
hall, pool, tennis courts, picnic pavilion, walking trail, fishing lake
and community garden, this is a favorite meeting place for locals and
travelers. Concerts are held here for community celebrations throughout
the year.
Outdoor activities include tennis, jogging, hiking, canoeing, biking,
fishing and just plain strolling.
Our elevation in town is 2400 ft. We experience the four seasons with
mild winters and cool summers. There are beautiful natural sites to
see here as well as the charming downtown district and the recreation
centers.
Spectacular views surround the public golf course which is adjacent
to the Lake Tomahawk Recreation Center.
